Internet Marketing Tips for bloggers with the MelvinBlog

Tell me about your Blog?
My blog is MelvinBlog.com. It kinda started as a personal blog where I just share all my thoughts mostly about internet marketing and blogging itself. But then it started to grow that I realized I need to actually stop doing ramblings posts and start more giving quality good stuffs to my readers. So now it’s like a business blog for me because it’s one of my more popular asset.

What was your first blog?
My first blog was a basketball blog and it used to be in blogspot. Although I am passionate about basketball, I also wanted to monetize it. It was my first crack at making money online and I failed miserably. My passion for the sports though helped me continue it.

Eventually after half a year it grew, and I was able to monetize it well. And then I transferred it to wordpress and do some more stuffs. Eventually middle this year, I was able to sold it for some good three figure amount.

What is the biggest tip you would give to a newbie blogger?
Know what his/her goals. I mean not all aspiring bloggers want to do it solely for the money so my tip is evaluate why you really want blogging. If you want it for the money then understand it’s going to be real tough.

What do advertisers do that you wish they wouldn’t?
Being shady. I mean advertisers are marketers and most of the time they do something that shouldn’t be done. Like advertising with a certain ad only to find out the ad is an adult ad outside your geography or it redirects at some point.

What do bloggers do that you wish they wouldn’t?
Try so hard to make money from their blog. I mean blogging is fun, isnt it? I’ve seen some people who could probably have it going but  because they want to cash in really quick with their blog, they plaster it with so many ads that it hurts the blog.

Im sure later on bloggers would realize that blogging is really fun (even w/o the money thing)

Where do you see growth in the blogging field?
Guest Posting is a growing field in blogging, simply because it’s like advertising for FREE.

What do you do to improve the world?
Just act accordingly. Try to do what’s right and be more focused. It’s a cliche statement but there’s really no magic answer.

What is one thing about you that not many people know?
That I am an optimistic person, lols. Most people who are with me most of the times think that I am a pessimist because I always have a realistix mindset, but really I am an optimist.

What’s your favourite book?
Im a big fan of inspirational books so I would say Purpose-Driven Life by Mr.Warren and It’s Not About Me by Max Lucado. I do also read business books like Rich Dad, Poor Dad.

What is on your iPod?
Don’t have an ipod but have a ton of music players. I like rock music, Dashboard Confessionals and some love songs that make me relax.

I try to go to all blog/business related events here in my country Philippines. I wish that when I finished school I can go to the bigger ones like Affiliate Summit, Blog Expo and stuffs
