Lynn From Midday Escapes An Interview

Lynn is mysterious. There’s no photos of her to be found. She’s so famous she goes by one name and she’s got the connecting with other bloggers down pat. I foresee a promising future for her in my crystal ball, but I can’t see her…

Tell me about your Blog

My blog started as an outlet for me to escape the drudgery of my 9-to-5 work life.   I named it Midday Escapades after the lunchtime adventures I was going to be having.  Since then, the blog has taken shape along with the amazing blogging community I am thrilled to be a part of.  Now, I share other discoveries, in addition to escapades, as well as reviews and giveaways, and I enjoy making and featuring new bloggy friends.

What was your first blog?

This is my first and only blog since I started in August 2009.

What is the biggest tip you would give to product reviewers?

Be honest in your review. We owe it to our readers and also the companies to give an honest and authentic review of the products. After all, wouldn’t we want the same from others?

Are you contacted by companies or PR companies or do you contact them or both?

In the beginning, I was contacting the companies directly to offer my review assistance.  Now that my blog has grown, I am pleasantly surprised and honored every time I receive a PR request.  Here’s a link to a Q&A post I prepared for my readers to share my experiences with others:  http://bit.ly/6ih5yU.

What is your favorite product that you have reviewed?

Oh goodness, this is a tough question considering the array of wonderful products I’ve already had the pleasure to review.  If I had to pick just one though, I would have to say it was the Bake Me A Wish Chocolat Mousse Torte Cake [link: http://bakemeawish.com/cakes-chocolate_mousse_torte_cake-23.php?occasion_id=1] because next to coffee, chocolate is my favorite food and my husband and kiddos REALLY enjoyed that decadent cake!

What do companies or PR companies do that you wish they wouldn’t/ do that you like?

So far, I’ve had good experiences with the PR reps and companies that I have worked with. However, I have had two companies not make good on shipping the prize to the winners. Hence, my main wish would be for companies and PR reps to keep their end of the bargain and send giveaway prizes to the winners.

What do bloggers do that you wish they wouldn’t/do that you like?

I have also been fortunate to meet some authentic and kind bloggers. I particularly admire bloggers who are not afraid to speak their mind, in a respectful way, and I also enjoy humorous bloggers who can lighten up the day.  I do wish that all bloggers would include their email and/or blog URL (if it is not active in their Blogger profile) when they leave a comment at my blog so I can respond.

What advertiser would you like to work with given a chance?

While the possibilities are limitless, I would have to say e.l.f. Cosmetics.  I like that they are open to working with bloggers to promote their products, and I also love that they offer their make-up at affordable prices while at the same time not compromising on quality.

Where do you see growth in the blogging field?

I see growth and potential within the bloggers network, whereby two or more bloggers join up and pool their resources to work together on projects and sponsored events. For example, I have partnered with two amazing bloggers, Rita of One 2 Try and Tami of Hearts Make Families, in a weekly feature called Friday Follow: http://bit.ly/7qdUj5. I’ve also seen others in the blogosphere do the same recently with their memes. It’s great to see that we can colloborate with one another for the common good instead of competiting to be the top dog.

What is one thing about you that not many people know?

I like a lot of activity.  That is why I think I would enjoy visiting New York City, the city that never sleeps.  I don’t like sitting still for very long or being alone. I love being out and about and around other people.

What’s your favorite book?

Right now, it is Succulent Wild Woman by Sark.  She has an amazing way of making you feel good about yourself and I like how she uses color, handwritten notes and drawings to bring her words alive.

What is on your iPod?
I jam to a mix of ’80s, 90’s, hip hop, alternative rock, heavy metal and even the Xanadu soundtrack. I listen pretty much to anything that sounds good and that I can dance to.
What are your contact details?

Email: middayescapades(nospam)@gmail.com — remove the no spam
What events do you attend?
I currently have my options open to possibly attending a SITS Bloggy Boot Camp. I’m also open to attending other blog conferences and media events.
How do you prefer to communicate?
I love email because I can access it easily.  I also like Twitter and I especially love to respond to comments left at my blog.
Who would you recommend, and why?

Bloggers:
– Rita of One 2 Try [http://one2try.blogspot.com/]:  Rita is an amazing product reviewer and blogger.  I’ve learned a lot from her in the short time I’ve known her, and I appreciate her knowledge and enthusiasm as one of my partners/co-hostess for Friday Follow. Rita also shares the neatest fun facts on her blog, like did you know that March 28 is National Black Forest Cake Day?
– Tami of Hearts Make Families [http://www.heartsmakefamilies.com]:  My other Friday Follow partner/co-hostess, Tami is a sweetheart and she is one of those authentic and kind bloggers.  She’s also an up and comer as a product reviewer and she tells great clean jokes that you make you LOL.
– Supah of The Adventures of a Wannabe SupahMommy [http://supahmommy.blogspot.com/]:  Don’t let her blog name fool you.  She is already a SupahMommy, not a wannabe at all.  I really enjoy reading her blog and she is always creating new and exciting memes and sponsored events.  AND, she is THE creator of Post It Notes Tuesday fame.
– Angela of The Suburban Jungle  [http://thesuburbanjungle.blogspot.com/]: I met Angela when I first started blogging and she has been very kind to me from the beginning. Angela has a lot of good information on her blog, including how to save money, and she is pro with reviews.
– Mary RC of Shaking the Tree [http://marymaryrc.blogspot.com/] and Blog Rock [http://blogrockmaryrc.blogspot.com/]: Can I just tell you that I am fascinated by Mary?  She blogs about her life, works as a make-up artist, and has a blog design business.  She has also been incredibly generous and helpful in designing our Friday Follow and an advertising button for my blog.
Companies:
– Rubbermaid:  I initially made contact with Rubbermaid for a review of their Lock-It Canisters and once the connection was made, I was thrilled to hear back from them some months later to host a review and givewaway of their new drawer organizers.  They have a trusted company and have so far have lived up to that trust in my eyes.
– Popchips:  Not only does my family enjoy snacking on Popchips, but the company representative is extremely friendly and easy going. They even sent me two Merry Snacking gift boxes over the Christmas holiday. How cool is that?
– Blush Topless Undershirts:  I was fortunate to connect with Blush after a referral from Angela at The Suburban Jungle. Blush immediately accepted the offer to let me host a review and giveaway, and they even sponsored a second one a couple months later.
– Country Bob’s:  They make an amazing All Purpose Sauce that goes very well with steaks. I was so glad that they sent me 2 bottles instead of one to review because I’m having to fight my kids for it.  Country Bob’s also sent me one of their neat cookbooks as a thank you gift.
– Rosa’s Fudge:  Notwithstanding the deliciousness of their fudge, I had fun interacting with Rosa’s representative. They were prompt with shipping the review product and sending out the giveaway prizes to all 6 winners.  It can’t get any better than that.
What is one thing people can do for you?

Interact with me! I will admit it…I crave interaction, I love it and I seek it out. Come by and visit and leave a comment for me, stalk me, follow me, subscribe to my blog, tweet with me. I always do my best to reciprocate and respond back.
