When having a media training session, your media trainer will prepare you and instruct you how to interact with the people who are interviewing you with a focus on gathering positive press coverage.

Who Needs Media Training?

This days being a successful entrepreneur is not enough. Giving a good interview is essential when you are meeting with a journalist. Good interview means that you talk clearly and concisely communicates context on the topic that you have been asked.

 

When Should You Get Media Training?

Immediately. If you are already talking to the media or you have upcoming interview or even think to pitch for your first interview, having media training means that you will be prepared for any media opportunities that come your way. Being prepared for a successful interview or an unexpected situation that quickly gains media traction it requires a big range of different skill set. And if you don’t have it, you risk losing the credibility you’ve worked so hard to build. Media interview can make you or break you, depends how well you will prepare yourself.

 

 

Expectations

Like any other training or class, media training can be different depending on your needs but here are several basic parts of every media training course.

 

A Video Camera – Every media interview is being recorder and having that said people who are expecting to be in front of the camera can get a little nervous. This is where media trainer will step up, during the session you will be asked to answer several questions while the camera is on, meanwhile the media trainer will see your integration with the camera and discuss which elements worked and which need to be worked on.

 

Tough Questions – Cruel reality is that any media interview is going to have one or two tricky questions that you would like to avoid or you didn`t expect them and you are not prepared to answer them. Big part of the media training sessions will be dealing with this types of situations, how to work with tough questions and how to move the conversations to the topic that you want to discuss.

 

Body language – Body Language is an important aspect of today`s modern communications. Your goal during a media interview is to appear as natural on camera as you are in person, and almost everyone gestures naturally when they speak. If you have need to move your hands while talking, do so, but please keep in mind to be synchronizes with the rest of your speech.

 

Controlling the interview

Being misquoted is very easy, especially if you don`t have experience with the media and giving interviews. Having media trainer will properly guide you and make a plan how to maintain  control during an  interview , which is the key to getting your story heard and reported properly.
