Tell me about your Blog?

“Errant Ramblings: Mitzi Szereto’s Weblog” (http://mitziszereto.com/blog  ) is a bit of random madness about my adventures (and misadventures) involving such things as the publishing business, life as a writer, the internet, social media, public transportation, being an American expat in the UK, travelling, music gigs, London, my bear, loftmen, and my exciting new venture as Web TV entrepreneur for “Mitzi TV” (http://mitziszereto.com/tv ). In a nutshell, it’s about anything and everything!

What was your first blog?

I blogged about a summer residential erotic writing workshop I taught in Wales. I’ve pretty much pioneered the erotic writing workshop in the UK and Europe, making it into a cottage industry, so it seemed like a suitable topic to blog on! Though to be honest, it was probably more about going down the pub!

What is the biggest tip you would give to a newbie blogger?

Create your own voice and style – just be yourself. Don’t parrot what others are doing and saying. This is the same advice I give to new writers. Basically, please don’t bore the crap out of us!

What do you do that is green?

I don’t own a car. Though that has nothing to do with being green. I’d get a little car in a minute if it were feasible! In the meantime, I’ve developed great calves.

What is one thing about you that not many people know?

I absolutely cannot abide frivolous girly pursuits and nonsense. I hate to shop, I don’t do lunch with the girls (my mates are pretty much all male so that would be difficult), I don’t read women’s magazines, and I can’t stand soppy films (give me action-packed thrillers every time!).

What’s your favorite book?

Anything that’s got my name on it. You honestly didn’t expect me to plug someone else, did you? :p

What is on your iPod?

I don’t have an iPod. Most of my music is on my old laptop, and I can’t be arsed to bother transferring it onto a USB stick or burn it to CD. Now how British is that, not to be arsed? Maybe I’ve been living here too long!

I’m also on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter (@mitziszereto) and most everywhere! My various sites are listed on my “Errant Ramblings” blog and on the Mitzi TV site. I also have a fan page and group page on Facebook (and MySpace) – an absolute necessity since I’m so active on Facebook and cannot accommodate all the friend requests I get in. Mark Zuckerberg has a lot to answer for with that ridiculous 5,000 friends maximum. I think he owes me dinner – and not at McD’s either!

What events do you go to?

I go to networking events, ie geek events, generally things with a focus on the internet, social media, the press, and the creative arts. If I may spout off here, for a city the size of London, I find the events here leave a lot to be desired. You either get hardcore events for developers or else events that are full of PR and marketing people and/or students. And this is not just my opinion – I’ve spoken with many others and they all have the same complaint. There’s a real void in face-to-face professional and social networking that isn’t being met.

How do you prefer to communicate?

By email. I find the telephone tiresome. People always ring when it’s not convenient!
