Web Entrepreneur and QuickSprout Blogger, Neil Patel an InterviewQuickSprout.

Tell me about the mission of your QuickSprout blog?

My mission with Quick Sprout is simple, I want to help entrepreneurs accomplish their goals.

How do you describe your work overall?

I spend most of my day networking, blogging, and talking on the phone, whcih revolves around on my new startup, KISSmetrics.

What have been your most important learnings in starting Crazy Egg and KISSmetrics?

Make decisions based on data. If you make decisions based on what you want to do, you will make a lot of mistakes and waste tons of time.

What new ideas and trends are you seeing around social media?

The biggest trend I have been seeing is that social media isn’t just for kids anymore. A lot of people who are older than 50 are starting to adopt onto the social web.

As for ideas, I haven’t seen anything great recently. Companies have been trying to make things that shouldn’t be social, social. All this is going to do is confuse their current customer base.

What new project are you working on that you are excited about?

The only new project I am working on is KISSmetrics. I can’t tell you much about it, but you will find out more about it soon. 😉

How do use social media as part of your daily business?

I use social media to communicate to my customers and potential customers daily. Through services like Twitter you can find out if people are having problems that you could potentially solve and try to lock them in as a client.

What was your first computer and your first website?

I don’t remember what my first computer was. The only thing I remember is that I got it when I was around 11 years old.

My first website was Advicemonkey.com which no longer exists. The site was originally a job board, but it didn’t do well so I had to shut it down.
What is the biggest tip you would give to a newbie blogger?

Write really really really detailed content. The more detailed content you write, the more successful your blog will be. What I mean by this is that you need to write content that isn’t just news related, but more importantly content that provides value to a reader.

Where do you see growth in the blogging field?

I think the stay at home moms and dads are going to start creating more blogs. You can make a living through blogging if you get good at it… so why have a 9 to 5 job? Plus moms and dads want to spend more time with their kids and this gives them the perfect opportunity.

What do advertisers do that you wish they wouldn’t?

Waste money on ads that aren’t converting for them. You should measure all of your advertising and make sure that it is worth every penny you are spending.

What do bloggers do that you wish they wouldn’t?

A lot of bloggers write about crap.

What do you do to improve the world?

I am not sure what I would improve. But I hope we will have a cure for cancer one day.

What do you personally do that is Green?

I drive a crappy car that is eco-friendly. And on top of that I try to walk instead of using my car.

What is one thing about you that not many people know?

I am really cheap. I hate spending money.

What’s your favourite book?

The Dip by Seth Godin.

What is on your iPod?

I don’t have an iPod.
