Tell me about your Blog?
SEO by Swaby is my company blog, but I give away a lot of great tips for do-it-yourselfers.  I write about SEO, social media and try to provide lots of real life examples of strategies that work, as well as those that don’t.

What was your first blog?
I suppose it was a blog for a company I worked for.  However my first successful blog was about Salt Lake real estate.  It closed in October, 2008.

What is the biggest tip you would give to a newbie blogger?
Don’t stop producing content.  The hardest thing to do at the start of a blog is to keep writing for an audience of no one.  If you keep writing and keep linking to other sites, the traffic will come.  Just because nobody is reading what you’re writing today, doesn’t mean it won’t ever get read.  I often receive comments to the effect of, “that was a great article so I read all your others.”

What do advertisers do that you wish they wouldn’t?
I tend to ignore most advertising.  I guess that’s the lesson of overexposure to marketing.  Right now my pet peeve are those ads that open up over a news article and don’t have a close button.  It often covers up the text of what I want to read.

What do bloggers do that you wish they wouldn’t?
It’s a real turn off to read blogs that are spammy, contain incorrect information or contain spelling and grammatical errors.

Where do you see growth in the blogging field?
It appears there is a lot of growth in the social media field right now.  I believe the future is going to create more micro blogs using technology like Twitter and Posterous.

What new ideas are advertisers coming up with to take advantage of new trends?
Advertisers seem to be in a quandary regarding social media.  Honda is doing some TV to build its Facebook business page as is Bath and Body Works.  Naked Pizza in New Orleans is using Twitter.  Overall, I don’t think companies know how to leverage the technology that is available to them.  When marketers learn to stop advertising and start communicating I think we’ll see better use made of these tools.

What do you do to improve the world?
I’m honest, I pick up after my self and I do little things like returning the shopping cart to the proper place.

What do you do that is green?
Work from home!

What is on your iPod?
Reggae, 80’s new wave.

What are your contact details (email, company, blog, Facebook, MySpace, forums, etc)?
