Kimberley Blaine TheGoToMom an interview

Kimberley Blaine

Kimberley Blaine Tell me about your Blog?
www.TheGoToMom.TV is a multi-media haven for parents. I have a web show, Blog, Vlog and Radio show — This web show is a dynamic “How to” show for families with young children (newborn to 7). The “Go-To Mom” videos address parenting issues, discipline strategies, emotion coaching and much more! The show also presents cutting edge research about early childhood and brain development. I also have an amazing ‘circle of moms’ who are social media experts, so you’ll see a lot content on my site about mom bloggers, mom entrepreneurs etc…

What was your first blog?
My first blog was about ‘Fit Yummy Mummy Lifestyle.’ Holly Rigsby
from,www.fityummymummy.com,was my first Twitter (@TheGoToMom) follower too!

What is the biggest tip you would give to a newbie blogger?
If you’d like to post a fellow blogger’s content, or feature them, do your homework.
You should know a lot about someone and what they do before you ask them to work with you. When you make your first approach, comment on their work, so they know you know what they do. Also,
make it easy for a guest blogger to give you content. Let them know what material you’d like to use, how you’ll give credit and link. Don’t make your guest blogger do any work, or they’ll decline your invitation.

What do advertisers do that you wish they wouldn’t?
Pop up ads before a page downloads drive me nuts. Also, I can’t stand pre-roll ads on videos! Some players put them on my videos. No one wants to sit through pre-rolls, ever.

What do bloggers do that you wish they wouldn’t?
Compete. Talk trash. My biggest petpeeveis when bloggers cuss at one another on Twitter. Not necessary. If you’re at odds with someone, email them personally, don’t resort to high school tactics, it’s tacky. My last book, www.TheInterenetMommy.com is an example of how women online should work together – It’s not only good for business but good for morale.

Where do you see growth in the blogging field?
I think advertising will take a whole new dimension so that it’s widely accepted, effective not as disruptive to the user’s experience. I also think that blogging will be like a owning a cell phone. Every one will have a blog sooner or later. I believe that long time bloggers will have to expand in to and incorporate other modes of communication. Having just a blog won’t be all the exciting to the reader anymore — Video, radio, social networks and message boards keep people around.

What new ideas are advertisers coming up with to take advantage of new trends?
I just love the interactive advertising that are offered on some video platforms… On some of my shows a little icon pop ups of a product that I’m using, and if you click on it’ll take you to the web site to purchase it. Quite exciting I’d say! Eventually this will be a common feature on TV as well. This technology has been in the works for at least 12 years now.

What do you do to improve the world?
Even though I’m an ‘Internet Mommy’ most of the day! I’m a licensed family and child therapist by trade. So I help parents better understand their young children. My next book comes out in September 2010 titled, “The Go-To Mom’s Guide: Emotion Coaching for Parents.” We all need help raising our kids, it’s the most important job you’ll ever have – and I’m here to help.

What do you do that is green?
My first three books are printed at a eco-friendly press. They’re only printed when they’re purchased. We don’t do huge print runs anymore. It’s very green and responsible. At home we compost our food, recycle, try not to purchase toxic products and use energy efficient appliances – it’s a pretty big deal in California to be green – it’s now expected.
