MommyNamedApril An Interview

mommynamedapril

April aka MommyNamedApril is a mom of , take lovely photos and writes three blogs. Is that all there is about her? Not in the least. She calls herself a Rabid Mommy Blogger and was an attorney. She’s quite funny and even her giveaways have a touch of humor added to them.

Tell me about your Blog –

My primary blog, April’s Little Family is essentially a family scrapbook and follows my life as a former career gal gone stay-at-home-mom to three kids aged three and under, a small dog and a self-employed-work-from-home-part-time-student-husband.  I also write a food blog, Mama Loves Food! where I post easy family friendly recipes, and a promotional blog, Mama Must Haves where I review products and host giveaways.

What was your first blog?

My first blog was April’s Little Family, which I started in August of 2008, it began as a way to keep in touch with friends and family and has grown into so much more.
What is the biggest tip you would give to product reviewers?

Be honest and don’t review products just for the sake of getting free stuff.  Stick to things that are relevant to you and your readers.
Are you contacted by advertisers or do you contact them or both?

When I first started my review site I would contact advertisers that interested me and who I thought would benefit from exposure on my site.  At this point, however, I am contacted often enough that I no longer make regular inquires.

What is your favorite product that you have reviewed?

Probably the Blockbuster Kiosk was my favorite product.  This probably sounds silly because the item’s value was only $1.00, but had it not been for the review, I never would have tried the kiosk.

What do advertisers do that you wish they wouldn’t/ do that you like?

It really bothers me when an advertiser requests that I promote or review an item sight unseen.  I also recently had an advertiser send me a teensy little sample of something on which to base my post.  I found it insulting that they wanted me to spend my time and energy promoting their item and they couldn’t be bothered to send me a normal sized product.
What do bloggers do that you wish they wouldn’t/do that you like?

It bothers me when bloggers are disingenuous for the sake of their audience.  I understand that we’re all putting out a ‘persona’ but outright lying is just distasteful.  I love when bloggers invite us into their lives with pictures.  Photographs add a real human touch.

What advertiser would you like to work with given a chance?

In my fantasy world, I would love to work with Disney.  Otherwise, I like to work with companies who can make my life (and others similarly situated) easier and more enjoyable.
Where do you see growth in the blogging field?

Everywhere!  In all seriousness, with websites becoming easier and easier to acquire and the wealth of user-friendly blogging platforms, I think blogging in general will continue to grow at exponential rates for the foreseeable future.
What is one thing about you that not many people know?

I’m addicted (ADDICTED!) to Nutella.  Maybe I should work with them…
What’s your favorite book?

Fiction: East of Eden by Steinbeck; Non-Fiction: John Adams by McCullough
What is on your iPod?

Would you believe I don’t have an iPod?  It’s true.  On my computer’s iTunes though, I have Michael Buble, John Mayer & Jack Johnson on loop.
What are your contact details?

What events do you attend?

As a result of having several small children in tow, I have not had the opportunity to attend any events yet.  I have had meet-ups with individual bloggers, however, which has been quite fun!
How do you prefer to communicate?

Email is my preferred method of communication.
Who would you recommend?
Melissa  from StockpilingMoms
Jill from Scary Mommy
Mr. Lady from Whiskey in My Sippy Cup
Aunt Becky from Mommy Wants Vodka
Megan from Velveteen Mind
What is one thing people can do for you?

Be genuine.
