Sky Seery has been blogging for about 4 years. Besides writing about products and running giveaways, she connects with other bloggers by providing a weekly link up for giveaways and a vlogging post called Mingle Monday. It’s a nice mixture of posts that keep you entertained and informed.
Tell me about your Blog –
Seeryus Mama didn’t start out as a review blog, even now I’m hesitant to call it that. I’m constantly changing…and I hope that reflects in my posts. I started blogging in 2006, mostly to keep family updated on our child. It wasn’t until after my daughter was born in 2007 that I made a commitment to blogging. Seeryus Mama has come a long way, baby!
Are you contacted by advertisers or do you contact them or both?
I really don’t pitch anymore. Now that I’m a student, I just don’t have time and that works for me. I still end up with enough to blog about.
I love being contacted by advertisers, but I don’t like receiving press releases. Seriously, I don’t have time to post all of them on my blog, and I don’t want too. Please, make it worth my time and my readers time.
How do you handle pitches that you’re not interested in?
Well, I’ll be honest, those simply press release pitches go into the trash. It’s annoying and I don’t care to fill up my blog with that stuff…because readers skip over it 99% of the time.
Did you get any “formal training” in blogging or did you learn as you went along?
That’s a negative. I’m still learning…and I always will. Now that I’m a college student, I’m finding all sorts of errors in my writing. It’s scary, but I can only learn and move on.
What do bloggers do that you wish they wouldn’t/do that you like?
I wish more bloggers would support each other. You know, we are all in this together. I’ve turned myself away from the drama…I’m just not going to do it.
What advertiser would you like to work with given a chance?
Wow, given the chance, I’d love to work with HP. I’m an HP girl all the way!
Where do you see growth in the blogging field?
There is always change, the other day I went back to posts a couple of years ago…mostly for myself. It’s fun to see how much we’ve all grown. I never know where it’s going next. I just keep in my own space trying not to ruffle any feathers.
What is one thing about you that not many people know.
I hate my computer desk. It’s always so cluttered…and that stresses me out!
What’s your favorite book?
That’s a tough one! I’m a librarian…and books have always been a huge part of my life. I’m fond of several authors, Suzanne Brockmann, Ayn Rand, Jennifer Crusie, James Patterson, Audrey Niffenegger, Wally Lamb, Eileen Goudge…the list really could go on and on.
What is on your iPod?
I have a little bit of everything on my iPod…except for country. DeBussy, Tori Amos, Beastie Boys, Black Eyed Peas, Cypress Hill. I also can’t live without my podcasts. Two of my must-listen-to podcasts are Manic Mommies and WTF w/Marc Maron.
